Refund Policy

1. Eligibility for Refunds

Carbon removal purchases are eligible for a refund under the following conditions:

Technical failure — if the payment was processed but the CO2 removal was not retired in our registry due to a technical error on our side
Duplicate payment — if you were charged multiple times for the same purchase
Incorrect transaction — if the transaction amount did not match the displayed price at the time of purchase

Refunds are processed within 5-10 business days, credited to the original payment method. Stripe processing times may add additional days depending on your bank.

2. Non-Refundable Circumstances

Important: Once CO2 removal has been retired on your behalf, it cannot be un-retired. Retired removal certificates represent permanent, real CO2 removal that has been claimed and recorded. For this reason, completed carbon removal purchases are generally not eligible for a refund.

Specifically, refunds are NOT available in the following circumstances:

Change of mind — if you decide after purchase that you do not want the CO2 removal. As noted above, once retired, the removal is permanently claimed and cannot be reversed.
Flight did not operate — if your flight was cancelled or changed after you calculated its footprint. The footprint calculation is independent of whether the flight actually operated.
Incorrect flight details entered — if you entered the wrong flight number or date. Please verify all details before completing your purchase.

3. How to Request a Refund

To request a refund, please contact us within 30 days of the transaction, providing:

Your name and email address used at time of purchase
The flight number and date associated with the purchase
The transaction amount and date
A brief description of the reason for the refund request

4. Refund Processing Time

Approved refunds are processed within 5-10 business days. Credit card refunds may take an additional 3-5 business days to appear on your statement due to bank processing. We will confirm when the refund has been initiated.

5. Exceptions and Special Circumstances

Tao Climate reviews exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. If you believe there are exceptional circumstances that warrant a refund outside the standard policy, please contact us and we will consider your request.
